This new update adds a feature I have been wanting to implement for sometime now. This new feature is the ability for WP-Forge to be updated from within the WordPress dashboard itself! Trust me I am really jazzed about this and I have tested it and it works perfectly.
This ability is due to the use of the Github Updater from Andy Fragen. This plugin is very simple and easy to use. All you have to do is download the plugin from his Github repository, install and activate it. It’s that easy. You can get the plugin here https://github.com/afragen/github-updater
Once you have the plugin installed and activated, there are two ways you can update WP-Forge. The first is the old fashioned way. You can manually download the newest version of WP-Forge, and upload it via FTP. If you do it this way there will not be an update available via the dashboard until I release a newer version. Once I do that, then you will see that there is an update available and you can click to update.
The second way you can update WP-Forge after you have the Github updater installed is to open up style.css and add the following line to the stylesheet, just under the line that reads Text Domain: wpforge (line 11):
GitHub Theme URI: https://github.com/tsquez/wp-forge
Click update. You should now be able to go to Dashboard > Updates and see that there is a new version of WP-Forge available for install.
Go ahead and click the button to update. Once the update is complete Your version of WP-Forge should now be at v184.108.40.206 – Now that is awesome. As always, if you run into any problems or have any concerns, please feel free to send me an email or create a thread in the forums. Enjoy!
